Trail Development Process
1. Club Trail Committee determines a suitable route for the Baxter/Severn ATV trail. The route will be determined by the following: a. Accessibility, from connecting trails, roadway etc. b. Terrain, suitable for all season use. c. Maintenance requirements. d. Proximity to residential areas and buildings. e. Approval of adjacent properties. 2. Landowners are then approached and asked to consider supporting the club for a trail on their property. If interested, the Trail Committee and the Landowner walk the route together to determine the best route and if it is acceptable by the Landowner. 3. The Club once the Landowner has given permission for the route; the Landowner is asked to sign a Land Use Agreement and can denote any special requests or site-specific instructions. A copy of the signed form will be sent to the OFATV to initiate the trail liability insurance coverage. A copy is given to the Landowner, and a copy is kept with the Club. 4. Work dates will be set to perform official marking of the trail and begin trail building. Trail development may include: a. Bridge building or culvert installation. b. Grading c. Tree trimming and/or removal d. Posting of signage

Baxter/Severn ATV Trail Riders Mission Statement
The Baxter/Severn Trail Riders ATV Club Inc. will help create and maintain an association of ATV enthusiasts for the purpose of advancing safe and legal ATV riding in and around the Townships of Georgian Bay and Severn. We will endeavor to create a working relationship with landowners, municipal officials and police agencies. We will participate with the community to promote safe, legal and responsible ATV use and to assist with training and education. Our organization strives to promote safe and responsible recreational ATV riding. The number of ATV enthusiasts is growing rapidly, creating a need for safe, legal riding opportunities.
Welcome to Baxter ATV Club Trail System
Atving is an inherently risky off-road activity that occurs in an unpredictable natural environment. It is advised that you dress accordingly, with appropriate safety gear and that you carry emergency equipment. Cell phone service is not always available.
An OFATV trail permit is required. The annual "TTN Gold Pass" permit entitles you to ride Ontario Federation of ATV Clubs (www.OFATV.org) and Eastern Ontario Trail Alliance (EOTA www.thetrail.ca) trails across Ontario. The goal of the Ontario Federation of ATV Clubs (OFATV) is to make Atving a viable recreational sport across Ontario. Buy your membership locally to help the clubs lobby for ATV access within the area that you would like to ride. You will be funding the club's ability to build and maintain trails, as well as helping them educate riders about safety, environmental consideration and trail etiquette. A permit is $150 per year and can be purchased online @ www.ofatv.org or by contacting Baxter ATV Club President Terry Madore @ 705-538-1315 Double riding/two-ups are not road legal so riders with passengers should stay on the trail not the road. Riders with passengers run the roads at their own risk. Fines start at about approximately $110.00 and go up. When we have a club-sanctioned event, there is typically a police presence, and we ask that our members ride alone unless a parade pass has been granted, which will be stated in the advertisement for the event. . With young operators, under the age of 16, it is advised the ATV should be sized appropriately for the child's size and weight. The child must be accompanied by an adult on the trail. Legally, the child cannot ride on the road without a valid Ontario driver's license (G2/M2). Our trails use some road riding and a driver's license is required.
OFSC snowmobile trails are not ATV trails. The ATV clubs have separate landowner agreements in place. Please respect the terms of our agreements as posted en route so permission to use the trail is not jeopardized. Trails shared with the snowmobile clubs are closed normally on Dec 01 of each year, or once the trails are groomed. Some areas of trail may be closed earlier. Check with the local ATV Club in the area where you intend to ride. Ontario's Highway Traffic Act leaves it up to each municipality to establish where and when an ATV can be operated. In other words, each Township must pass a by-law before ATVs are allowed to use the roads. Unfortunately, Atvers have a bad reputation for nuisance and destructive riding to overcome. It is important that you, as an informed rider and to avoid breaking the law, by checking the by-laws and with the local ATV club in the area in which you plan to ride. With the internet these days, this research is fairly easily done. In addition, contact the local club in advance to plan your run (advice on trails, season length, parking, facilities, etc.) since they are familiar with their area and can give you the most up-to-date information. Your decision to respect Ontario's laws will mitigate negative publicity for the sport of Atving and help us take the sport into the future. Find out how to get involved and help create Atving as a viable recreational sport within your community in Ontario.

Signage to identify trail, ownership and safety requirements. You set the conditions of the land use. You determine where the trail goes across your property. You can stipulate which areas are in need of maintenance, culverts etc. You can set trail use times and seasonal restrictions. The club is responsible for maintenance. We maintain the trail as required. We provide required equipment and manpower. Your liability is guaranteed. The OFATV recognizes you are insured by the OFATV's Third Party General Liability Policy Permission to the Club for the land remains in place until you or the club terminates it. Their assistance in trail building, maintenance and trail development is always welcome. We want to hear your concerns and comments. Club and OFATV Trail Insurance In addition to the individual's member insurance, the insurance policy with the OFATV provides third party liability insurance for the landowner, OFATV, member clubs, members and volunteers. The policy provides a $5 million Commercial General Liability, $5 million Non Owned Automobile and $250,000 tenants Legal Liability. The policy deductible is $1000, which is paid by the club when a claim is reported. Landowner's that have completed a Land Use agreement with the OFATV have protection up to the $5 million limit. The policy was developed for and is limited to OFATV members. All riders and participants using OFATV trails must be an OFATV member.
