We Welcome Severn ATV Trail Riders as a chapter to Baxter ATV Trail Riders
We are known as Baxter / Severn ATV Trail Riders and have been busy this past year. We have added new trail to our existing trail system and are working to fill in the areas of repair to be able to ride the trails. We also have by-laws in Severn Township, which gives us app. 100 km to ride this year. This by-law is a one year trial period and we hope be able to make them permanent ones.
In the 2009 year we raised money for a needy family which we bought groceries and presents for a family of three small kids and a single mother in the area. We had a Christmas party held at the Christie's Mill Inn & Spa with a beautiful buffet dinner and great entertainment from a live band with dancing to top the evening off. Our most temp pass member for the year was awarded with a gift. And hope to be a seasonal member this year.

We would like take a moment to say a very big thank you to all our members for your support and help on the trails and rides, our club was a success once again. Many things are in the works for the 2009 year we are now using the long awaited TTN Gold permit to start our new year. They are good for one year and are $140.00 per bike. Good on all OFATV trails. We have joined with OTC (Ontario Trails Council and have more trails to ride in Ontario. These permits are once again available by reaching Terry Madore or Terry Duskocy or picking them up at the Am-co gas station in Port Severn on Lone Pine Road. (the old shell) We are still working with Severn Township to put trails going to Coldwater and Orillia. They want to lay a trail for adventure in the country side of Severn area too. Hoping to connect to all across the area. The Prostate Extreme ride had a good turn out and had lots of fun we had a ticket sale for weekend for two and the money is going towards the trails this spring also some great news for our trails this year The Canadian Government released their Budget yesterday, (February 2009) and $25 million has been allotted to Canadian trails. We will have access to a very large amount of money that MUST be spent in 2009 on our trails. We are asking all Clubs to DREAM BIG and come up with as many projects that you could possibly complete this year this will be an extremely small window of opportunity for us to gain access to this money and if we fail to do so this year, we may NEVER get this opportunity again. So we are asking all Club members to put together a list of as many projects that you can imagine, and gather quotes and project information. Until we have full details, we are asking you to obtain estimates on having all project work completed by contractors etc. The Toronto Sportsman Show is coming soon (March 18th to 22nd) and we are seeking volunteers to man the booth. The hours for the show are as follows: Wednesday 18th- 10am to 8pm Thursday 19th- 10am to 8 pm Friday 20th- 10am to 8pm Saturday 21st- 10am to 8pm Sunday 22nd- 10am to 6pm Elections are coming up for our club and we need to have new members for the club positions. Notations are welcome Positions available are the President and Treasurer. With our by- laws in standing these position must be filled this year by new people and would greatly appreciate support in filling these positions. Our AGM for this year is April 18, 2009 at the Baxter Community Centre Time is 10:00 a.m. so mark this on your calendars Honey Harbour Road Port Severn Ontario For further information contact Terry Madore at 705-538-1315 or Terry Duskocy at 705-538-1675 Our web site has been changed to baxteratvriders.comz.com 2009 OFATV AGM June 6-8th Stay tuned for full details What’s New!
Welcome to the 2008 season of ATV trial riding. We would like to start off by saying thank you for your support for the Baxter ATV Trail Riders. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our members who came out this past year and helped support our events and volunteered their time to make these events a great success. Your support is greatly appreciated, and we could not run a club or host successful events like we have without your help. Hopefully in 2008 our number of volunteers will grow due to the examples being set by you.
The 2007 season was a busy one. We would like to tell you a little bit of what has happened with your club this year. The club directors have been busy meeting with some local councilors and Mayors in an effort to improve our trails and gain some new ones. Some brief details of these meetings are below: Ø Meeting with MNR for information on how we can use the MacDonaldRiverBridge. (This is an on going effort and we hope for a resolution in the near future.) Ø Meeting with local council & land owners for the implementation of new trails that would allow us legal travel from Port Severn through SevernTownship. Just to touch base with the information about the SevernTownship information we are Appling for by- laws in this area to give us more trails to enjoy. Our meeting is in February 2008 and we hope to have good news to bring back to everyone in the near future. We hosted two events last year and both were very successful. Ø Fourwheelin Wheelin Women, we had 150 bikes and a great day of adventure. Ø Our silent auction raised $1100.00 which is being put towards trails and equipment for the club. Ø Prostate Extreme Team ride had 60 bikes, and included an optional Poker Ride. Along with the ride the OFATV held their annual raffle draw and announced the winning tickets and presented the prizes to the people that were at the ride. Those who were not present at the ride were contacted and awarded with their respective prizes. We are already in the planning stages for several events set to take place this season. Our first event of 2008 will be a MEMBERS ONLY RIDE followed by a B.B.Q dinner. This ride will be open to OFATV members only. This ride is slated to take place on the 31st of May. Please stay tuned to the OFATV website at www.ofatv.org for more details as we continue to plan this ride. 2008 will be the third consecutive year that Baxter ATV Trail Riders will host the Prostate Extreme Team ATV Ride of Hope. This ride will be held on Saturday September 20th. As always volunteers are needed to guide these two rides and we will need some extra help with the MEMBERS ONLY ride in May. Anyone who is able to contribute a couple of hours of volunteer time to either one of these events would be greatly appreciated. Here are a few other things that happened in 2007 that you might find interesting: In the summer the OFATV applied for and received our first ever Government provided grant. Ø The total amount of the grant was $100,000.00 to be used for trail improvement by all OFATV clubs Ø The first $5000.00 was presented to our club by Wayne Daub at the Prostate Extreme ride in September. And the balance ($ 5,000.00 to be presented In May 2008 to complete the remainder of the trail work. Ø To date, we have completed 75% of the proposed trail improvement work. We were halted in the late fall by very wet conditions and an early winter. The remaining 25% of the work is slated to begin in the early spring. Those of you with some free time and lots of energy are encouraged to come out and join us in completing this very exciting project. A number of our club members have been working very hard to break a new trail in the SixMileLake area. This new trail is about 70% completed and will add a significant amount of trail to our existing trail network. This is in addition to the trail improvement work being done through the Government grant. In the spring of 2008 we will be organizing several work parties to go out through the week to finish the work needed on this section of new trail. Again, volunteers would be appreciated and are needed. The OFATV has changed their membership permits from an annual renewal to an ANNIVERSARY RENEWAL PERMIT. Each of the clubs in the OFATV held a members vote and the change was passed. This means that you can now purchase your membership at any time of the year and it is valid for one year from the date of purchase. For example instead of your permits being valid from (April 1, 2008 – March 31st, 2009), if you purchase your permit on September 15, 2007 your permit will be valid until August 31, 2009 This is great news especially for those who purchase a bike mid season and would have not gotten the full value and use from their permit under the old system. Please be aware that if you purchased your 2007-2008 permits by April 1st, 2007 your membership renewal will remain on March 31, 2008. The OFATV will be sending us more information to their members regarding the new permits and renewal dates. Also this year, the OFATV found a more justifiable insurance policy for our third party insurance and member coverage. The new policy has lower rates with better coverage. This means that our club will receive more money from the sale of each membership. This means more money being returned to our club to help with trail improvement and will also help increase our operating budget so that we can make some much needed club purchases such as tools and equipment needed for trail maintenance. We are in the process of changing our website. We are trying to make it more accessible to our members, and keep it up to date with upcoming events and meetings as well as pictures from our rides. Please be patient with us during this process and stay tuned for further updates. We would also like to let you that the Baxter ATV Trail Riders Club new mailing address is Baxter ATV Trail Riders P.O. Box 222 Port Severn, Ontario L0K 1SO We have a new map. Our trails are more clearly marked on a topographical map with printed spots marking different locations on the trail. We currently have a volunteer who goes out on the trail and places markers along the trials that correspond to the markers on the map. We hope this will help you navigate our trail network easier and have a more enjoyable ride. Remember if you approach a spot you are unsure about going through, take the by-pass. Our first warden course produced 8 new wardens for our area. We will be ordering warden vests and setting up a warden schedule for the upcoming season. We hope to run another warden course this year. Anyone interested in becoming a warden, please contact us and we will start organizing the next date. As memberships start coming up for renewal, we hope all of you will once again join the Baxter ATV Trail Riders club for more adventure and fun in the 2008 season. We have enclosed a membership application for you and hope this will give you a great Easter idea. Our memberships/permits are available through the club and can be picked up from the president -538-1315, vice president 538-1675 and the H & S Shell gas station on Lone Pine Road or through the OFATV web site.
